Romanian Gendarmerie is a specialized institution of the State, with military status, within the Ministry of Administration and Interior, witch exercises, in terms of law, its conferred attributions for protection of safety and public order, citizens' rights and fundamental liberties, public and private property, for prevention and discover of crimes and other violations of the laws, as well as protection of State’s fundamental institutions and combating acts of terrorism.
Romanian Gendarmerie, by its attributions, organization, training and territorial structure, contributes to guarantee the sovereignty, independence, authority, safety and unity of the State, constitutional democracy on entire national territory, in peace time, and in crisis situations.
